Whether a state is considered a red, blue, or a swing state is examined as an independent variable in connection to voter turnout in states from the 2012 to 2020 elections, the dependent variable The relationship between independent variable and dependent variables is used to test the null hypothesis that the state’s status as a solid color state or a swing state has no impact on voter turnout in those particular states. Topics considering states’ changing status over time as it pertains to voter turnout effect are also discussed. The Electoral College’s structure and how it pertains to the competitiveness of a state and its voter turnout is examined.
